Polybag Project 2022

At a price point of 3-5 units of local currency (in the US and Europe), polybags are an affordable access point for many children and may serve as some children’s first experience with LEGO ownership.

We would like to take this year to celebrate the LEGO polybag sets and demonstrate the wide range of creativity available at a lower price point.

Project Purpose:
Have fun and interact globally with the online community.
Spark discussions on accessibility to low priced LEGO sets.

Project Goals:
Collect meaningful data that can be shared with The LEGO Group.
Highlight the creativity of AFOLs using limited resources.

Project Participants:
Anyone! Individuals, families, friends, all ages

The Challenge

Each participant builds one polybag each month of the 2022 Calendar Year (January to December) and then adds the polybag contents to the previous months’ polybag contents to create a final build, scene or collection at the end of the year with all 12 bag contents.

You can start at any time in the year. We’ll share builds from the challenge each month on our Instagram page and you can join the Brick Alliance Polybag Project 2022 Facebook Group to chat with others and share photos.

Purchase not necessary:
Sets can be used out of your collection, gift with purchase, gifted to you, or virtual building.

Project Timeline:
January 2022 through December 31, 2022

Set Restrictions: only one set per month*
You can use any LEGO® polybag or foil pack of any size OR any small LEGO® boxed set with under 80 parts.

The polybags / sets can be new or used, or put together via parts on hand using a published parts list, such as the digital instructions available on LEGO’s website. A list of polybags can be found on Brickset.

You can also participate virtually using digital design software such as Stud.io but you must restrict part usage to published parts lists of a set / polybag that fits within the restrictions.

* you can start at any time – limiting yourself to one set per month that you missed. Please go through the steps for each bag as if you had started in January – including data entry of the form. You can even skip a months if you aren’t’ able to do the full year’s worth of polybags. Have fun!

Frequently asked questions:

Where can I buy a polybag? – polybags’ availability vary globally. The best way to find out where there in your country is to google “lego polybags in *insert country here*”. They can usually be found in department stores / supermarkets or LEGO stores, otherwise we recommended purchasing them on second hand sites like eBay or participating digitally.

I‘ve only just discovered the project, can I still get involved? – Yes of course! You can backfill any of the months you missed; for example if you started in March you could do January, February and March’s build in March to catch up. Even if you don’t intend to do all 12 months we still encourage you to get involved!
